Introduction to a Dog Lover

Hi, My name is Ali! I am a junior, Health and Exercise Science major. I plan to go graduate and go to graduate school for physical therapy, which I am really excited about. I hope to one day go into pediatric PT, because I love working with little kids, although I would be just as happy to work with any other age group! I have had two internships so far, and loved them both so much. My first I got to work with little kids, My favorite part was one of the little boys would ask for me every day if I weren’t there, or was working with another patient. I thought that was the most precious thing ever. My other internship was at an outpatient clinic, and my favorite part of that one was this old man who always came in and joked around with me and the other interns.

I am really excited about this semester because I decided to add a psychology minor  to my degree. Ever since high school I have really enjoyed my psych classes, and even thought at one point that I wanted to me a psychiatrist. Now it's great because I get to take three more classes that I know will keep my interest!

When I am not at home, I miss my puppy at home. She’s not exactly a puppy since she’s 12 years old, but I still count her as one. Her name is Lucy and she’s a Black Lab.

My roommate at school has a dog that stays with us. His name is Chief, and he is a German shepherd. He’s cute, but a little rambunctious. Every morning he greets me by jumping up on me and biting either my hands or my arms somewhere, so I usually have about a dozen scratches at any given time.

One day I hope to have a Bernese mountain dog. I’m not sure when I acquired my obsession, but now that is one of my goals in life. I love that they are so big and cuddly looking!

I look forward to getting to learn a lot about some of y’all too!

  1. Hi Ali! My name is Ashley and it's nice to meet you! I can't imagine graduating with 192! I am excited for you to go to graduate school for physical therapy. I have so many friends that absolutely love that profession. I wish you the best!! I'm so jealous of your spring break travels! Big groups are fun especially in a different environment! Your dog pictures are so cute! I live in a condo and I am not allowed to have one, so I am completely jealous! I hope you have a good second week of school!

  2. Hey, Ali! I'm Briana and from the looks of it, we have a couple of interesting things in common. I also have a love for the healthcare field. I am currently earning my degree in public relations, but my first love was the hospital. During high school, I earned my Certified Nursing Assistance License as well as my Advanced Unlicensed Assistant certification and spent a good portion of the year completing clinical rotations. I had so much fun, and could totally relate to your comments about spending time with patients. I wish you the best of luck and I look forward to learning more about you!

  3. Lucy and Chief both look so cute, Ali! Maybe you can use pictures of them to make memes for this class, or even tell stories about them. There are so many great dog stories from around the world; you might even want to do a Storybook project about dogs! Sacred Texts Archive: Dogs ... and maybe you will find some stories in your reading for this class to use to share with the children you might work with in PT. You can never have too many stories to share with children; children need stories!

  4. Hey,
My name is Ashlie and I am also a junior and love dogs! I know what it's like having to leave your dog at home. I have a boarder collie/ blue healer mix and she is my baby. I got her in high school and we did everything together. I had to leave her back home in Idaho thought, she is happiest there. When I go home for the summer we go on a lot of hikes. Your spring break trip sounds like it will be really fun. A large group of people is always a party as well as entertaining. I think your past two internships should like they were really great. Good luck with classes this semester!

  5. Hi Ali, the dog pictures you posted are really adorable. I especially like the Bernese mountain dog, now I want one too. Your black lab is pretty cool too, the dog my family had when we lived in Colorado was part lab, and he was the friendliest dog ever.
    Have a great semester!
On a final note, I would like to compliment your blog layout. You should write up a Tech Tip and get some extra credit for the work you've already done. The different shades of orange make for beautiful blog colors, and the birds are great as well.

It's great that you're going to PT school and hope to work with kids! I have a lot of nieces and nephews so I love getting to spend time with kids.
I'm so jealous that you live with a German Shepard. That's my dream dog and I hope to get one after I graduate!

  9. Hey Ali! I really enjoyed reading your intro... my girlfriend works at the children's center up in Bethany and I think its awesome that people are so eager to help with kids. As far as the dog stuff goes, I am obsessed with dogs as well, as i have a 3 year old Golden Retriever named Chance. I hesitated to get him my sophomore year but now i can say it is the best decision I have ever made because he is a huge part of my every day life! I want a Bernese mountain dog SOOO BAD, but the only thing holding me back from getting one is how hot it gets here in Oklahoma. If i lived in Colorado or somewhere cooler, I might already have about 3 or 4 of them by now haha.

  11. Nice to meet you Ali! I love that you love dogs because I do too. I have a few tiny dogs right now but I also hope to have a really big cuddly dog in the future, I'm thinking a golden retriever or a goldendoodle. It's so great that you want to go on to be a physical therapist and that you want to work with kids. It takes a very strong person with a big heart to do a job like that and I think you'll be great at it!

  18. Hey Ali, great intro! It is great that you have an interest that you're pursuing while here at OU. Would you want to stay in Oklahoma, or go to another state to work? Either way, I know you'll be great! Your dog is precious, and so is your roommate's dog. What was your inspiration to go in to PT? Well I wish you the best in all that you do!

I really like labs, and that one picture that you included is great.
